Funkin For The West Side – Free Afternoon Concert at Center Space LB July 28th, 12pm – 2pm!
Trumpet player Dave Williams with musicians known collectively as MBT are funkin at Center Space from 12pm to 2pm! Heard regularly on First Friday’s in Bixby Knolls and venues like the Sky Room and DiPiazza’s, MBT delivers jazz laced funk skillfully directed by Dave who enjoys playing “straight ahead” music as much as blowing playful hellos on his horn for outdoor audiences. Opening for MBT is guest dj IMPACC priming the park with funk classics before the band takes the stage.
A precursor and promotion of the upcoming Long Beach Funk Fest, MBT’s performance is an exciting preview of the highly anticipated full day of funk music happening soon in the streets of downtown Long Beach. Before the show and during MBT’s intermission, “The Funky Few” volunteers who support Long Beach Funk Fest will be in the park passing out flyers and answering questions about the big day to come. Following MBT’s funk appetizer, residents and incoming visitors will continue the count down to Saturday, August 18th’s full course of funk served all day by bands including Zootzilla, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Brides of Funkenstein and The Family Stone at the 4th Annual Long Beach Funk Fest.
